The first phase of the yearly held Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) programme for children under 5 years will begin from December 16 throughout the State.
The earlier schedule of December 2 was deferred due to the JAC strike.
The second stage will be held from January 20 next year.
Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Henry K Heny told The Sangai, Express today that around 3.30 lakh children are targeted for administration of polio drops in the first phase.
He said adequate arrangements have been taken up in all the districts for the programe.
A total of 3,300 booths will be opened all over the State and the services of around 14,000 personnel will be utilized.
Arrangement has also been made to administer the vaccine on home to home basis, he added.
The Commissioner said the Central Government has .already sanctioned Rs 50 lakhs for the purpose and polio vaccines and equipments have already been provided.
He said that the department may appeal to the nurses to retract from their cease work strike and join the programme.
